Our new house is on almost 7 acres, and probably 4 acres (I'm guessing) were already fenced patures when we arrived in December.
Seemed a shame to waste all the pasture grass... Didn't want sheep or goats or "pet" farm animals... Beloved raised beef with his family growing up... So, we bought some cows!
Actually they are "steers," castrated males. We'll raise them for a while and then have them very humanely butchered. Home-raised, grass fed, organic beef! We'll keep as much as we will eat in a year, and then give away and sell the rest. If this year goes well we will get more next spring.
It's very peaceful to watch them graze.
_________
Arrival.
About 800 pounds each.
Should be about 1600 pounds by late fall.
You're all getting beef for Christmas.
They hear the tractor coming with hay.
"Hay?!"
The boys get to take turns driving.
They get all excited and frolic-y.
And then I feel a little badly about the eventual butchering.
The dog is stuck behind the electric fence. He got shocked just once, and now doesn't go near it. Don't worry, I let him out.
well how cool is that! Those hills in the background are beautiful. I'd love seeing that view everyday.
Thanks for sharing your new digs.
